Alla Prima from 2013 | Painted from Life
The majority of these works were painted straight from the subject over a particularly short period of time. These serve more as studies or sketches for me. Their impromptu method creates a fresh, clean look and tends to have a “sketchy” feeling. Most of the Alla Prima works are were completed in just two or three hours.
The head studies shown above were broken into twenty minute sittings. A few of the pieces took five or six sittings. Some of the studies such as “Brittney” and “Tim” were accomplished in fewer sittings and less time.
